For anyone interested in replicating this project, here is a link to the upper receiver we are using:

If using VFC, there will be a bit of the rail that is going to need to be cut. The area where the screw holds it in place is most likely where you'll need to do some precision cutting.

How did you guys get the upper rail onto your KWA receivers? Did you put a hole in order to allow the existing retention pin to hold it in place?

Also, with the VFC upper, we may need to make a bigger hole on the upper receiver to accommodate the piston tube

My parts arrive mid-late December.

The rail fits right on to the upper. Once I get a chance, I'm going to cut/drill the attachment points off the stock KWA rail and attach them to the JG rail (if I decide to stay with JG).

From looking at the VFC HK416 in the store I think you should be able to use a milling bit to cut out that notch in the rail. It will probably need to be filled in with something afterward.

About the hole for the upper, I was thinking that same thing.

Let us know how it goes. I'm still sourcing my parts, so I am interested to hear how the VFC parts fit.

Son of a bitch, Evike had the jg614 for only $60 shipped as a door buster deal. Well anyone who wanted a really cheap 416 conversion, you missed out.

VFC Barrel nut doesn't work, its a little smaller in diameter. Also the rail is a couple of mm lower, so you'd have to shave the JG upper rail or modify the barrel nut. Also you will need to drill the hole bigger in the upper for the piston system.

Now I wish I saw that JG614 on Evike earlier.

Well I think the answer is this is a brave new world. No one has really ever done major external mods to the LM4 before. Its always going to be difficult, and not to mention expense, to be a trailblazer.

For, those who would like to do the setup I'm currently working on, the link the the receiver rail is in a previous post, and here's a link to the RIS. I'm not sure what hardware it comes with, so just be aware of that:

Well my project is put on hold until I can sell these VFC parts, damn still kicking myself about the Evike deal. Also looking at the modifications required for the upper rail to work with the RS style brace system, I wouldn't recommend it either, especially as you'll still have the screw hole.

Damn!

Ok, I've got a friend who has a WE 416, I'll go over to his place and try his barrel nut. Let you know if it works.

About the upper rail being a tad higher and having the screw hole, can this be fixed by shaving and creatively using some epoxy steel and then just spray painting over the finished parts?

Maybe you don't have to sell your VFC parts just yet, especially since the rail is mighty nice.

My parts are in customs right now. My country sucks donkey dong when it comes to importing cool stuff.

I considered it a lot, but the amount required to shave off would result in the removal of the rear section that holds the rail down. Though you could probably shave that area as well and tap some holes to put it back. In the end it I considered it too risky and too much work. Especially since the JG614 parts seem to fit on without much work (other than opening the barrel nut).

Also I'd like a higher rail, that way I don't need to use my scope riser anymore. So shaving the rail down and not being much higher than the stock rail didn't interest me.

Also I cared less about the imitation piston system since you can't see it at all unless you remove the rail. Like I was sitting there looking for tbr piston and unless you shine a light into the rail you can't see it, even when you do see it you can barely tell that its a piston system.

In the end I actually sold the VFC parts the same day I got it haha. Though I took the sights (VFC HK416 sights are pricey) and the spare ambidextrous mag release for myself.

So before I put the VFC body up for sale I took the sights. Today I see ASGI has the sights for $95! Thank God I kept them haha.

LOL, yea, after seeing that, I'm so tempted to sell mine. I have the new retractable stock model 416 and actually prefer the look of the MP7 pistol sights on it. I think the 416 iron sights looked best on the old retractable stock model.

Seems Umarex is putting a stop to all H&K replicas that aren't licensed through them. So much that Evike has started to lower the prices of their H&K style guns to get rid of them before it happens.

This is a good time for everyone to grab a jg614 for cheap.

Yes. All non-licensed H&K replicas are banned for sale in the United States as of January. Though I'm sure you will still be able to find some at least for a while.

Damn shaving the barrel nut is annoying as f*ck! haha, should have it done by tomorrow, I need to buy a better bit. Here's a taste of things to come though, I'd say I'm about 80% done with the barrel nut and it should all go together.

Have you attached your top rail yet?

Yeah the top rail is attached, the only thing I need to complete is the shaving of the barrel nut. I got it to the point where it goes on half way over the barrel.

What did you do to attach it?
