Hey guys,

I'm pretty new to the forums but I've had my LM4 for a while and I absolutely love it. I just wanted to share my custom upper project with everybody.

Here's a teaser pic of test fitting some of the parts. Let's see if anyone can guess what it is. Just a hint, a lot of people have been really excited for this gun and there a lot of topics asking about when its coming to the LM4.

One guy with his TM SOPMOD used epoxy (and screws) and put a G36 rail onto the top of the original rail. Then he used mil-putty to mold it together. Let me find the picture and I'll post it up.

Here's some updates to the project. I have test fitted the upper rail, barrel nut and rail system. The barrel nut and RIS were drop in. I need the modify the top rail to use the stock roll pin attachment system. The barrel nut needs to be shaved to fit the lm4 barrel and then shimmed to eliminate handguard wobble. I also need to track down a place to get a vfc hk416 gas block and piston.

I will post pics as soon as I can figure out how.

Here's a close up of the upper while test fitting the top rail.

This is with the barrel nut, handguard, bolt, charging handle, and lower installed.

A close up of the upper. (still need to mod the barrel nut, and the dust cover and forward assist parts are on their way)

It came from a plastic bodied JG 614. Works well because it's metal and the JG body is built the same way as the LM4's. Only problem is JG used a screw through the top instead of a roll pin to secure it. Looks like I might have to do Boobie's set screw hop up mod :P

Hey, so is the JG 416 RIS drop-in compatible? If not, to what extent will mods need to be done?

Just an FYI, a guy on some Ohio airsoft forum is selling a complete upper (rail, receiver, barrel, etc.) for only $50. I was going to buy it but had to force myself not to as I've already spent too much on my gun haha, I forgot the link unfortunately but I found it on google.

The RIS itself is drop in, but the barrel nut is not. It threads on to the receiver perfectly but it doesn't fit the LM4 outer barrel without being shaved down. Also there isn't enough clearance between the RIS and the receiver to tighten the nut all the way. This causes the RIS and barrel to be very wobbly. I'm going to fix this with a shim.

Akira- A JG 614 upper? or an LM4 upper?

That's not bad at all. I'm going to end up selling basically all of the gun except the upper rail and barrel nut. I think that I will replace the rest of it with WE 4168 parts. I haven't decided about the rails yet cause they look great, there are just a couple realism flaws.

I got really frustrated with the barrel nut and tried to hammer it on to the receiver... Just kidding! :P It was actually used to punch out the upper rail roll pin.

Sorry I don't have any more pictures for you guys yet. Hopefully I can get some machining time in next week and get this baby finished.

I just wanted to solicit some input on parts I should get. I am looking at getting some higher quality parts including a gas block, piston, rail system and barrel nut. I have been looking at getting those parts from either VFC, WE or possibly Top Tech. Anyone have any experience with any of those companies, in particular their HK416 replicas? I have a couple VFC AEGs and I love their externals, but I've never handled a WE or Top Tech.

Also, I was looking at getting this barrel:

What do you guys think? It would be paired with this comp:

Well people have installed KSC and Guarder KSC barrels onto their LM4s with supposed simple modifications.

Thanks for the info, I didn't realize they needed modifications. You wouldn't happen to have a link showing the mods, would you?
