I would insert the pin as soon as possible. Then again, I haven't stripped my MK II down to that length so I couldn't be sure. Just keep trying and please let us know what works.

To elaborate it seems when the pin is entirely pushed in it pushes the actual hammer to far forward to fire.
When its half in the gun fires, but the pin isn't secure. So all I need to know is WHEN to push the pin entirely in.

Push down on part number 36. Then push part number 35 to the locked position.
