hi all ptp owners,

I broke my 1 week old mk4 ptp. am sharing my exp to all of you so none of you will do the same mistake. (or for you to laugh)

I was testing if all my 5 mag still have gas inside but I wanted to cover loud firing noise. So I placed my ptp flat on bed and pressed a pillow above like sandwich. I then dry-fired my 5 empty mag in this fashion. No problem for first four mag. I only noticed there was a large amount of gas blow backward when I was dry-firing. When I dry-fired my last mag I saw a black thing burst out from the slide bullet shell hole. I picked up the black thing from floor and noticed it is a broken front bit of the cylinder (part #7 according to the mk4 ptp part diagram). Also see attached photos.

I suspect the cylinder front bit was exploded due to the large amount of recoil-gas-power (do not know this is a right term to describe). And this was obviously caused by my pillow that was blocking all the firing-gas-power at the barrel front. Please correct me if I am wrong.

I really leant a lesson. May be KWA in future can add a warning line in the ptp manual saying something like blocking the barrel front even when dry-firing will damage your gun? Do not get me wrong am not blaming KWA. I just want to make sure no more idiot will follow my mistake.

two questions for KWA experts:
1) when will KWA restock the #7 part? I saw your proshop saying it is out of stock.
2) is this usual ? or just my bad luck I mean dry-firing 5 times with a pillow blocking the barrel front will explode the ns2? FYI this is my first time dry-firing with pillow covered and pretty sure is my last time.

I would've just told my family that I was dry firing an airsoft gun instead of taking that risk.

you can always contact KWA to see if they have the part in stock

That sucks :(, but for future advice all you have to do is hold the gas release on the mag and it empties out the remaining gas..

We should have the part back in stock this week, as well as some other parts.

I just had the same part break on my M1911 Mk4, however, I was not dry firing or muffling the gun or barrel at all. I was just shooting it this afternoon since the weather is nice. I haven't used it that much except running a few mags through it a month and lube and clean it. I had an issue the 1st week after buying it with the firing mechanism failing. KWA fixed it under warranty, but that has ended, now this. This must be a defect.

This just happened to me!  JUST NOW!!!

I ordered a PTP MKIV as a gift for someone on December 8th.   It arrived on the 16th.  I was away on business and returned home yesterday.   I wasn't' able to register the pistol and wanted to do it today.
The gas arrived today.

I Filled one magazine with G-1000 UHC power green gas. Put 13 provided BB's in.

I fired 6 shots and the same piece lodged itself in my ejection port and kept the slide back.
I pulled the clip, pulled the slide back a little to release this broken piece.   I can't even find the rest of what is broken off maybe it's still inside.

This is my first GBB purchase, My FIrst KWA. I sent a trouble ticket in.  Hopefully this will be taken care of.

Sorry dude, that's a broken cylinder.  The gun needs to be sent in for a warranty repair.

Is that the actual pic of your MK? If it is your gun is a KWA Asia Version and will not be serviced by KWA USA. You may want to contact your retailer for either a refund or an exchange.

Hey Thanks guys!  YEAH, KWA contacted me and they were awesome about this... Not only are the details of our friends post important.   But I was informed that any HK model of kwa may also have their own internals to comply with the fps limitations.   Chances are slim that  even the replacement cylinder offered at our fine pro shop will even fit or work as improvements and modifications to the system are employed through their QC.    KWA USA authorized retailers will always have the latest and updated parts and will follow a clear path of tech support to ensure we receive the best from KWA.

I never updated this post--- sorry.   I was able to repair this myself by purchasing the #7 part and 2 new return springs from the PRO shop.   Printing the diagram that is available I am easily able to repair every part of my MK IV....    One a side note for this NECROPOST...  I purchased a second PTP M1911A MK III from a US retailer and now I have a MK IV project pistol that has a 6.01 TBB and updated internals.  Firing at 380 to 395FPS it is relegated  to field use only.  The MK III is stock and is a nice CQB pistol.

Sorry for bumping an old thread, but how did you come across a 6.01mm tbb?

forgive me if i repeat what someone said, did not read all the reply's but what probably happened was your cylinder froze from firing the pistol sideways, (because when the pistol is fired in this fashion, more gas tends to spray out of the cylinder, and if you have ever done this to your hand while filling a mag, you know what im talking about) and then the repeated collision with the very cold (and now brittle) cylinder to the magazine lip probably snapped it.

So i guess you can call me Captain Hind sight on this one =P

LOL  No way.. I'm no Gangsta!   LMAO   I'm way too white for that.   However, I may be tempted to fire sideways with the hop-up all the way on if I wanted to shoot you around a corner!   Gotta love airsoft ballistics!  There was a movie about some secret group of gunslingers who could to that with Morgan Freeman in it...  Tell me you saw that film!

I've got another post on this where I detailed the issues I found.  It was  Hong Kong model and may not have had properly manufactured parts.   The replacement from the pro shop is rock solid.

Was the movie either Wanted, or the Matrix? Both involved aerodynamics and bullet curving and such... Lol

Wanted!   YES   that was a crazy interesting movie....  Not the best script, but darn good premise and plot line.  Nice sequences denoting that crazy ability.    Hey man!  Get me a voice over gig!   I've got that as a skill set.. Just never went forward with it... But I've been told to seek jobs within that arena for years now.  <-- Shameless plug!
