Should only take a few minutes.  Have you loosened the grub screw?

Yes. I took out the hex scree if that's what you mean

Yes, that's what I mean. Believe it or not a gun came to me that had been worked on at a local airsoft store by an incompetent tech that did not remove the screw and the threads are now ruined.  It's always better to be safe than sorry therefor I ask the simple, yet important, questions quite a lot.

Guys you have to watch out.  There is another version of this barrel.  If you want to shorten the barrel on this one, they are clockwise threads.  I have 2 M4A1 barrels which are different than the ones shown and they have counter clockwise threads.
