I use the stock piston with KWA m130 spring in my KM4-RIS, I play every weekend for about 4 hours each time. I have never stripped out the piston teeth. I do replace the piston once a year as maintains practice.

hellcat,
What does the piston look like after a year? I like the full metal teeth on high FPS guns.

This is my KM4 RIS stock piston with a Guarder SP130 after 11 months. Looks brand new

This is a MOD2 stock piston,  KWA 120 spring after 4 months.

The 1st tooth is grinded down. Im going to open it next week to install a fet ill post pics of the piston & gears to see if there is any damage.

Do you clean the motor & replace the brushes once a year also?

Ok, I did some experimenting while I was working on one of my other builds using other pistons I happened to have laying around. I tried a stock dboys (I think it came from a scar l) and some other unknown pistons from the parts bin. Everything seemed to work just fine which leads me to believe I have a faulty piston. That being said, I will probably run one of those pistons until I buy another one very soon.

And to answer an earlier question, how could I not like good ol' Ronnie James. Not very many songs I don't like.

Glad to hear you got it working. What motor are you using? You posted links from Clandestine Airsoft, i bought a few Lonex motors from them they have good prices. I noticed they are sold out of SHS motors but he lists a few others that are cheaper & he states there about the same as SHS.

Is the ZCI a good piston?

I worked for a ticket scalper in the late 70s early 80s before you can buy tickets online. Rainbow was his favorite band, he wanted front row tickets As Ritchie Blackmore will break a guitar and toss it in the front row. It wasn't a real strat he had two of them.
Not many 23 year olds know about Dio

I was just running the KWA stock motor. I may upgrade to something with a little more torque down the line but for now it seems to do the job.
The ZCI piston was pretty good for the price. However, the cnc tooth rack on the black one was like a metal file with grooves and what not on it. The piston with the cast rack was just fine though.

I'm also a huge Iron Maiden fan too. I just saw them a couple summers ago in Manchester Mass at the comcast center. It was probably the best show I have ever seen. They can still play like they used too, even Bruce Dickinson can still hit all the notes

The MOD2 appears to be cycling to quickly for the spring being used.  Basically the sector comes up and grabs the piston before is is fully forward.  There are 3 fixes:
  • Slow down the ROF

  • Increase the spring tension

  • Lighten the piston (or lighter piston)
Note:  Replace that piston before it shatters!

The RIS with the SP130 has compensated for the sector cycle or you have a slower ROF or both based on the top piston.

gcw, that was what it looked like the first time i opened it from the factory, it was shooting 303 -327FPS. I don't use any of those pistons. Remember how many cylinders i tried to get the MOD2 to shoot around 350FPS

I ended up using the G&G blue cylinder, ORGA 105 spring, Azimuth cylinder full metal, POM head (pic the 2nd post) & it shoots around 340FPS with .20 The Angel cylinder was sharp.

Used the blue, the others were over 380FPS with .25

My piston will look like your second picture...just no cracks. To be honest I never do anything to my motors....never had motor problems.

Most likely me when i open it up to install the fet.
Since i added a lighter spring, the KWA spring was too hot for Stryker.
The piston and POM head might be the same weight
Im using a HT motor Lonex A2

What should i expect, its a 14 tooth piston?

OT, did you read the article about Godfather airsoft in Airsoft Insider (Spring 2014) They opened another store in Paramus NJ

Thats pretty good for all that play after a year. I was amazed at the RIS piston i thought it would have been destroyed.
All my sons non KWA guns the pistons get ripped up in no time.
