This may be a dumb question. Will RM4 mags work in a KM4?

No.  RM4 mags will NOT fit in the KM4.  Top of the magazine is different and prevents seating.

But KM4 (or other TM-pattern) magazines will work in the RM4 you just won't get the "bolt lock" when the magazine is empty.

Then what modifications will it take to get the RM4 mags to fit the KM4 if possible.

Not sure it's possible.  Just curious, why would you want to use them in a KM4?

The follower is the key item to feeding all the BBs and may fit.  I don't have enough RM4 magazines to disassemble one to look.

Let us know if it works!

I've thought briefly about this too. I suspect that a modified follower would get you complete feeding.  I'm sure there is a way to restrict the number of BBs also.  Let us know what you come up with.

I'll play around with some ideas. And let you know if I find one that works.

Here's a comparison of the top edge ("feed lips") of the KM4 (typical TM mag) and the RM4.  Note the extra area behind the BB feed lips on the RM4 magazine.  This prevents inserting it fully in a KM4 magazine well although the KM4 mag works fine in the RM4.  Call it backward compatibility.

KM4 (left).  RM4 (right).

This is what I came up with. I used a 3/16in wooden dowel. And I drilled a small hole in center of the plastic part and dowel. Then I put a #18x5/8in nail in the drilled holes to add some support. You will need to cut the head of the nail of to make it work.  And sorry for the poor lighting in the pictures.

The follower after I finished it.

Very cool.  Now, you will need, IMO, another material to make this a long-term Mod.  You need to move from prototype to production.  What might work?  I have only a few ideas but a material that is more durable than a wooden dowel might be something to think about.  I don't know, do you think length of unjamming of might work?  Then again I could be full of crap.  See how long it last and then determin next steps.

I know the unjamming rod won't work it's to small. But you can get ABS and PVC round rod in the same sizes as wood dowels. All I had on hand where wood dowels but I plan to use ABS or PVC round rod.

Would like to see some made of the PVC or ABS.
