So, I've been playing airsoft for years and I really enjoy the sport. I have a sniper rifle, but that's irrelevant right now. Anyways, I've been in the market for an AEG and I already know that KWA has a very good rep. I'm okay with the prices because I know that the rifle can be reliable, but I want to know if I buy one from KWA; am I going to need to buy a LiPo and a new gearbox and a whole bunch of internals to ensure that the gun will be as reliable as it claims to be?

Nope. KWAs are super reliable right out of the box, and although they are LiPo ready, you don't have to use a LiPo. I personally use a 9.6v NiMh.

The gear box won't shatter because I'm using it? Nothing plastic inside the gear box that will break immediately because I decided to pull the trigger?

Hi Spyder141 - Welcome to the KWA Forums.  IMO, KWA makes the best AEG out of the box...period.  I don't say that because I am a Moderator, I am a Moderator because that is what I believe.  And I have seen the insides of most brands of AEGs.

No modifications are needed and I have yet to see a broken/cracked 2GX gearbox.  Now, understand that all guns will break eventually.  The good news is that KWA offers not only warranty repair, but out of warranty repair that will guaranty your gun is repaired to factory spec when and if that time comes.

My son and I use only 11.1v liPo's in our KWAs.  I do recommend that you stay in spec and make sure your LiPo have a 15C discharge rate.

I hope this helps.

KWA guns are amazing! You will definitely not regret buying one. A lipo would be fine in your gun, but if you are a little worried still, you can always use a 9.6v NMHI battery.

Only guys who can't shim a gearbox without blowing out gears and Ball Bearing Bushings need to worry about their KWA gun exploding. Only guys who can't seem to do a build in a KWA gun without cracking a gearbox shell need to worry about stocking up on replacement internals.
So, unless you are one of half the guys that frequently post on ASM, your gun is safe in your hands.

And I still ahve yet to see a 2GX gearbox crack.  I've tried to break them...they haven't yet.

I admit to buying my KM4-CQB on a whim, not knowing anything about AEGs or KWA.  The experience has been expensive!  Not because of anything wrong with the gun but because I've become a KWA "fanboy" and have since purchased several other KWA products.

I initially ran my KM4-CQB with a conservative 8.4v NiMH battery.  Since then I've tried 7.4v and 11.1v LiPO batteries.  The gun doesn't care what's in there.  I imagine trigger response is faster with the higher voltages (we're driving a motor) but without scientific instruments I can't tell.  The cyclic rate increases dramatically with battery voltage.  Depends on how fast you want to empty the magazine.  I prefer to keep the cyclic rate in the range of the real M4 (like my LM4).  I run a burst chip in the gun with the 11.1v battery to conserve ammo and avoid using the gun as a fire hose.

I know.
I have never cracked a KWA gearbox shell.
I own 4 KWA AEG's.
All of them have more than 200,000 rounds thru them each by now.
Only my DMR has the Cylinder Windows radiused, and that was done recently.

I went with KWA because of their reputation for being reliable and great out of the box.  If you decide to get one, you will not be disappointed.
