GI just posted a new video, so it would seem that the KWA AK's are here.

Notice the bolt still seems to stop on the follower. Maybe time will tell a different story, but that seems like a weak point to me. Who will be pre-ordering the gun? Hopefully the AKG system is as easy to work with as the LM4's are, so whatever shortcomings there might be we could upgrade with barrels and such. I've mostly heard disappointing things about the KSC version so my hopes are that this version is more rounded out.

Tim's such a tease! Not out yet...But I can tell you that he was at KWA when he was playing with that one.....Be patient, it won't be long now.

It definitely still has that major design flaw:

Yeah it's too bad they didn't design a different way for the gun to stop firing once it went empty, slamming into the follower just doesn't sound nice at all.

All a stronger follower will do is wreck the loading nozzle faster. I don't know what engineer would ever think that was a good idea. This really reeks of someone just getting lazy.

With all due respect, lets wait and see how the gun holds up.  I know that changes have been made to address potential breakage issues and if there is a problem, Niko and I will be the first ones to cry foul if the design turns out to be a problem.  I promise you that.

I second this. Sorry kwa..but yea..we will see once it gets here if anything was actually done..still a poor design from ksc..so I doubt it'll change much with kwa

Like I said, not defending it, just waiting to see the evidence before we hand down a ruling.

Hope they did something different with the hop up too..I was not a fan of the ksc version..so many damn little parts..just to do one thing..push down on the bucking.

Well, they are playing with the production models this weekend at Ops Bull Dog.  Lets see what the field report sounds like. Regarding the hop-up, I haven't seen the final version so I'm in the same place you are....wait and see.

Got to handle one of these at Bulldog this weekend. It felt fantastic. I can't say anything about the bolt catch or the hop up unit though. But I will say that I will be picking one up when they come out.

Did you actually skirmish with it or fire it at the KWA booth? I fired one at a KWA booth years ago (NC Airsoft convention) and at last years Fulda Gap and you can't really put it through any stress that a full game would so who knows.

Thats why I said I couldn't say anything about the bolt catch or hop up. If I skirmished it I would have known those things.

I have taken the AKG out to a couple of games and the follower and the cylinder are both super strong. The new follower didn't even have a mark on it after over 1,000 rounds. The new material is impressive.
I haven't taken the hop up unit apart to see how many parts it has, but it works well. That much I know...

Figured with all guns you probably have to run at least 6-7 games to see if any there are any problems.

I'm not the only one that takes them out. We all take them out as often as we can, more than 6-7 games. We write reports on what we find with our testing. If something is a concern or needs improvement, then we write it down and let the factory know the issues.

It's not a bad gig...

The Kalashnikov operating system does not offer a bolt-hold-open-on-empty-magazine device (that would be one word in German) or any way to retain the bolt open although it's possible to modify magazines to have the bolt snag the follower if the magazine is empty.  The bolt slams shut when the magazine is removed so it's just a warning.

If KWA is trying to simulate the real item about the only way to do it would be to have a device in the magazine or gun to cut the gas flow if the follower is all the way up after recoil.  A disconnector for want of a better word.  This would prevent the gun from firing when the magazine is empty and require proprietary magazines.  But I suspect these are proprietary anyway.  Not sure how one would release the disconnector since the Kalashnikov operating system has no bolt stop at all, even manually.  Yeah, you can machine a notch in the dust cover for a manual bolt hold open.
